Sida – the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – is a government agency working to create better living conditions for people living in poverty and under oppression around the world. Sida works on behalf of the Swedish government and parliament and the agency's activities are funded through Swedish tax revenue.
Sida is implementing the Strategy for Sweden's global development cooperation on migration, returns and voluntary repatriation 2024–2028. The strategy seeks to counteract irregular migration and stimulate well-functioning returns that can contribute to sustainable growth and development in receiving countries, and effective action for voluntary repatriation. Development assistance will also contribute to effective measures to strengthen migrants' and refugees' enjoyment of their rights in partner countries, support host communities, and strengthen asylum and migration management in partner countries.
Through this call for proposals, Sida is seeking projects and programmes focusing on the Central and Eastern Mediterranean routes. Proposals should pay particular attention to these routes, in close alignment with Sweden’s bilateral and regional strategies that include migration objectives, and in coordination with EU instruments and Member States. Proposals must focus on achieving results in countries prioritised in the Strategy for Sweden’s Global Development Cooperation on Migration, Returns and Voluntary Repatriation 2024–2028.
Proposals should address one or more of the following three areas:
i) Strengthen asylum and migration management through institutional capacity-building.
ii) Strengthen border management
iii) Counteracting migrant smuggling
This call for proposals will be open from June 30, 2026, 12.00 CEST to July 31, 2026, 12.00 CEST.
